Randstad Sourceright, a leading provider of RPO & MSP Recruitment Services is currently recruiting for an engineering Project Manager to work for a global brand covering more than 55 countries, in a business unit which serves the Petcare nutrition and Pet healthcare markets.
The Role:
The project manager will be responsible for the delivery of both capital and revenue funded projects at the Petcare Science Institute with an annual budget of approx. £1.5m. As the project manager you will take overall responsibility for a complex portfolio of interdependent projects within the campus. You will work with a wide range of existing suppliers and will be expected to develop a fuller technical supplier base for future needs. You will be responsible for ensuring all project delivery is on time and that we meet our customer needs and expectations in a challenging and fast moving environment, providing maximum value to the business. The role holder will be expected to develop and deliver a varied profile of project technologies from civil building and construction projects to engineering infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities:
- Initiating - checking feasibility and working out civil construction and engineering project budgets, constructing project teams and identifying internal and external resources to achieve project delivery.
- Planning - setting project milestones, defining project stakeholder roles and producing schedules of project tasks using project planning software. Gantt charts should be used to create a visual project plan for tracking project timelines.
- Manage and deliver projects within the budget
- Executing - managing all projects to include, projects, R+D design projects and control of sub-contractor project managers.
- The role holder will also support the research technical project requirements where needed, consulting on and delivering new technologies and designs to evolve the facility.
- Monitoring and controlling - tracking all project's progress using the appropriate project planning software and reporting agreed measures.
- Closing - evaluating successes and challenges to enhance learning for your next project by conducting “post project reviews”.
- Set project objectives - in line with Waltham site budget, which will include scope, content and schedule.
- Plan project work - set deadlines to meet the agreed needs of all Waltham site and contractor stakeholders.
- Select, lead and motivate - both internal and external stakeholders and promote best practice in project management.
- Monitor - all project work to ensure on time delivery of all projects.
You will require a comprehensive knowledge of project delivery to achieve this you will require to do the following:-
- Delivery of all site development and maintenance projects on time, within budget, safely and to the required quality.
- Selecting and managing teams of external contractors and consultants (e.g. architects, quantity surveyors, etc.) depending on the size or complexity of the projects.
- Constructing detailed specifications of the works to be undertaken, tendering the work and then negotiating the best price whilst maintaining the highest quality of delivery.
- Communication of site activities and progress to the management team and the wider site.
- Responsible for all site development projects conforming to safety and construction legislation.
- Developing a portfolio of suppliers through selection and appraisal of new suppliers for the different types of site project activities, liaise with Commercial for vendor assurance and manage performance during projects.
- Controlling project budgets from capital and revenue budgets.
- The review and selection of equipment, machinery, services and installation standards with reference to technical and safety standards.
- Providing ideas and input to the development of the site development strategy.
- Outward facing to build external networks and drive and facilitate opportunities that support other company units developing facilities by sharing technical expertise & best practice.
- Driving an efficiency and quality improvement programme for site development projects and activities.
Key Skills and experience required:
- A facilities or building construction background
- Able to manage contractors on site
- Scoping of projects
- Proven experience of working in a project, plant engineering, construction or maintenance role.
- Proven experience of installation activities, mechanical and/or civil
- Working knowledge of safety legislation associated with facilities management
- An enthusiasm for safety and the drive required to both maintain and further advance safety management on site.
- Good communication (written and verbal) skills and computer literacy are essential.
- Proven ability to work in a team build and lead teams
- Educated to degree level in an engineering subject with experience in an engineering project or maintenance environment or to HND/HNC level in engineering with significant experience in an engineering project or maintenance environment commensurate to degree level.
Desirable experience:
- Project capability or APM qualified
- Technical project management
- Plan activities to deliver successful outcomes
- Communicate with stakeholders
- Execution of multiple projects at one time.
- It would be desirable to hold a professional qualification in project/programme management.
- IOSH or NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety is preferable
